Pink - FunHouse 2008
Having spent the majority of her career crouched behind a shield of badassness, Pink has been the regular quipster, pinning jokes on herself while poking at life’s follies. However, in Pink’s fifth album, Funhouse (La Face), the usually nefarious pop star displays her wounds and vulnerability in a fashion that’s anything but fun.
On the sullen, yet hopeful “I Don’t Believe You,” supple strings weep over love’s tug of war. “We come to blows / And every night / The passion’s there / So it’s gotta be right / Right,” she sings on the track. The Aerosmith-tinged “Mean,” spotlights an epiphanic Pink feeding throaty harmonies, spoons of query, and truth. While, “It’s All Your Fault,” failing to follow through on her threats as she cries out “I would never pull the trigger / But I’ve cried wolf a thousand times.” That does not sound so fun.
Almost flooding the entire set in melancholy melodies, Pink manages to keep Funhouse afloat with three sprinkles of silly in the sad. The Max Martin assisted single, “So What,” has the rosy protagonist drunk on introspection, shouting out Jessica Simpson, and searing through frenetic rock-pop melds. “Bad Influence” flips the finger at marriage with hoops of jolly electro-punk soundscapes. And the album’s funky title track, “Funhouse,” is the icing over a dark cake, managing to spurt gaiety into reflections of a broken home. After all, pop music needs sun rays when drenched in rainy days.
Funhouse is more haunting than amusing, but the solidarity that comes along with her recent divorce serves as the effort's muse and proves to be her best partner in life.

Hoobastank - For(n)ever (2009)
ever.jpg)
Alternative music scene group FNT has pre’d this, the newest album from platinum-sellers Hoobastank. This is definitely not my cup of tea, but I know that they have a big fanbase, from their hits like “Crawling in the Dark” and “The Reason”, so here’s the new stuff. It’s set to be released on Tuesday, so as per the usual, enjoy it early.
2009 album from the Alterna-Rock heroes, produced by Howard Benson who is best known for his work with My Chemical Romance, Daughtry, Reliant K and Flyleaf. When a band has as much success as Hoobastank, the motivation to top itself must come from within. That renewed desire can be heard from the very first notes of “My Turn,” the first single from Fornever, which marks a return to the Rock roots of their first two releases, the platinum-plus self-titled debut and the two-million-plus-selling The Reason. With Fornever, Hoobastank have gotten in touch with what originally motivated them, which has made them stronger than ever. Hoobastank is Fornever.
